Introduction
At Nocturnal Cloud, we were honoured to help bring Great Faith: Stories of Sacrifice and Contribution to life online—an inspiring national initiative commemorating 80 years of service by Muslim servicemen and women in the British Armed Forces. Delivered with a fast turnaround, our work focused on crafting a powerful and accessible digital home for this landmark project: www.greatfaith.co.uk.
Objective
Great Faith tells a long-overdue story—one of courage, loyalty, and faith. Through 80 powerful portraits by renowned British war artist Arabella Dorman, the project honours the vital but often overlooked role of Muslim servicemen and women, both past and present. Our goal was to design and develop a sleek, user-friendly website that not only showcases this important work but also invites deeper engagement with the individuals and history it represents. Accessibility, visual storytelling, and educational potential were at the core of our digital strategy.
Implementation
-
Portrait Gallery: We developed a visually immersive portrait gallery allowing users to explore each of the 80 artworks, accompanied by moving personal stories and historical context.
-
Artist and Partners Pages: Dedicated sections highlight the contributions of Arabella Dorman and key collaborators—including Colourful Heritage and Nizam Uddin OBE—providing rich narrative depth.
-
Responsive Web Design: Built on WordPress and optimised for mobile and desktop, the site balances elegance with ease of use, ensuring maximum accessibility for a wide audience.
-
Hosting & Analytics: We implemented a robust hosting setup, analytics tracking, and SEO optimisation to support both technical reliability and reach.
-
Future-Proofing: The site has been designed to accommodate additional educational resources and content updates, ensuring longevity and continued relevance.
Results
-
National Impact: The project gained widespread attention for its contribution to inclusive historical storytelling, offering a new lens on Britain’s military and cultural legacy.
-
Digital Visibility: The website has become the central hub for audiences to engage with the portraits, stories, and forthcoming educational materials.
-
Community Engagement: By making these untold stories accessible to educators, students, and the wider public, the project supports broader conversations around identity, diversity, and remembrance.
Conclusion
Great Faith is more than an art project—it is an act of recognition. At a time when the contributions of minority communities are often marginalised, this initiative restores visibility and truth through art, storytelling, and digital innovation. Nocturnal Cloud is proud to have played a central role in building the digital infrastructure for this historic project, and we remain committed to supporting cultural and heritage initiatives that educate, include, and inspire.
