Great Faith: Honouring Muslim Servicemen and Women Through Portraits and Digital Storytelling

At Nocturnal Cloud, we are proud to have played a key role in delivering the digital foundation for Great Faith: Stories of Sacrifice and Contribution, an inspiring national initiative celebrating 80 years of service. Our team was responsible for designing and launching the official website—www.greatfaith.co.uk—and supporting all digital elements of the project with a remarkably fast turnaround.

A Landmark Project: 80 Portraits Marking 80 Years of Service

Great Faith tells a powerful story of courage, loyalty, and faith, highlighting the contributions of Muslim servicemen and women who have stood for Britain in times of both war and peace. Through 80 striking portraits, this project shines a light on the untold stories of those who have long been overlooked in the nation’s collective memory.

The heart of Great Faith reveals a vital truth: the soldiers who fought for Britain during the First and Second World Wars came from richly diverse backgrounds, reflecting a Britain that looks much more like today’s society than the Britain of 1914 or 1940. Muslim, Christian, Hindu, Sikh, Jewish, and other Commonwealth soldiers stood side by side, united in defending shared values and freedoms.

Restoring Visibility: The Power of Art and Digital Access

Renowned British portrait artist Arabella Dorman has captured the essence of these servicemen and women—many of whom are still serving today—through intimate, powerful artworks. Each portrait is more than a visual record: it is a story of service, sacrifice, and belonging.

By developing a sleek, user-friendly website and digital presence, Nocturnal Cloud helped ensure these important stories are easily accessible to all. The Great Faith digital platform allows visitors to explore each portrait, learn about the individuals behind the uniforms, and engage with history in a meaningful and inclusive way.

Why Great Faith Matters

This initiative is more than remembrance; it is an act of recognition and inclusion. In a time when some seek to distort or erase the contributions of minority communities, Great Faith offers a compelling counter-narrative: Muslims have been an integral part of Britain’s history and its armed forces—from the trenches of the Western Front to the skies over Europe, and continuing today in public life.

As the team behind the digital execution, Nocturnal Cloud is honoured to have supported this mission of truth and unity through innovative web design and development.
